Edward Gardner is undoubtedly one of the most renowned conductors in the world today. He serves as Principal Conductor of the London Philharmonic Orchestra and is Music Director of the Norwegian Opera and Ballet, in addition to being a sought-after guest conductor with orchestras and the world's largest opera houses. Violinist Alina Ibragimova has established herself among the leading violinists of her generation and regularly performs as a soloist with orchestras around the world, as well as a chamber music performer. Here these great artists will bring us the beautiful Violin Concerto No. 1 by Sergei Prokofiev. The concerto is a testament to its author with lyrical, seductive melodies mixed with the powerful conflict between the solo violin and the orchestra.
Beethoven's Symphony No. 9 will nevertheless be the focus of this concert, performed by the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, supported by world-class soloists and choirs. The symphony is a magnificent invocation for humanity and brotherhood, a message that is as urgent for today as it was at the beginning of the 19th century.
