Iceland Symphony Youth Orchestra

The Iceland Symphony Youth Orchestra holds its eighth concert at the end of September.

This year the ISYO performs Tchaikovsky's Symphony no. 5 under the direction of Eivind Aadland, a favourite guest conductor of the ISO who is now leading the youth orchestra for the second time. ISO members work actively with the youth orchestra, sharing their experience and expertise.

Soloists' competition

In collaboration with the Iceland Academy of the Arts, a soloists' competition is held for college-level music students each year. The competition takes place in the autumn, and winners will perform at the ISO's Young Soloists' concert in January 2017.

Development projects

The ISO runs a number of exciting long-term cooperative projects with a variety of groups. The orchestra is currently completing a two-year cooperative programme with the Árbær and Breiðholt School Band and will embark this autumn on a similar programme with the Kópavogur School Band.

During the coming season 2016-2017, the ISO will work on a multi-cultural project centring on lullabies in cooperation with Fellaskóli and Austurbæjarskóli schools, plus a number of Icelandic and foreign artists.
