Iceland Symphony Youth Orchestra

The Iceland Symphony Youth Orchestra celebrated its 10th anniversary performing Beethoven's Ninth Symphony in Harpa in September 2020.

Members in the Iceland Symphony work actively with the youth orchestra, sharing their experience and expertise. Eliza Reid, the First Lady of Iceland, is the patron of the Youth Orchestra.

Soloists' competition

In collaboration with the Iceland Academy of the Arts, a soloists' competition is held for college-level music students each year. The competition takes place in the autumn, and winners will perform at the ISO's Young Soloists' concert the following Spring.

Development projects

Since 2014, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has been involved in development projects in cooperation with the school ensembles in the greater Reykjavík area. With this cooperative effort, the orchestra emphasises the importance of operating strong school ensembles where young people can acquaint themselves with vigorous musical activity and upbringing.

In 2016, the ISO began collaborating with the Kópavogur School Band. The project received special recognition from Kópurinn, the Kópavogur Educational Council, as an outstanding educational project. In April 2018, the foundations were laid for collaboration with the Austurbær School Band.
