20. June 2022 : Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir appointed Artist in Residence with the ISO

Sæunn Thorsteinsdóttir has been appointed Artist in Residence with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for the coming season and will be collaborating with the orchestra on various projects, including a world premiere of a new cello concerto by Veronique Vaka.

2. May 2022 : John Adams conducting own work

 

Renowned composert and conductor John Adams joins the Iceland Symphony Orchestra this week and conducts his own works in Iceland for the first time in concert on Thursday evening. Pianist and artist in resedence at the ISO, Víkingur Ólafsson, performs Adams's piano concerto Must the Devil Have All the Good Tunes?.

1. April 2022 : Vacant positions for flute, violin and cello at Iceland Symphony

 

Positions for principal flute, co-principal 2nd violin and tutti cello are available for application at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. Auditions will take place in June in Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavik.

Auditions for the position of principal flute at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra will be held on June 8th 2022 in Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavik. Application deadline is April 13th.

28. February 2022 : FEAST – Icelandic Premiere next Wednesday

Next Wednesday night, Víkingur Heiðar Ólafsson premieres in Iceland a brand new piano concerto by Daníel Bjarnason in a live TV broadcast from Eldborg. The concert is called FEAST and premiered at the Walt Disney Concert Hall in Los Angeles on the 18th of February.

23. February 2022 : Vienna Concert 2022

The Iceland Symphony's ever-popular Viennese concerts are truly a celebration, brightening the dark winter days with zesty and vibrant music.

Come and join us for a celebration of the new musical year on Thursday at 7.30 pm, Friday at 7.30 pm or Saturday at 4 and 7.30 pm!

 

7. February 2022 : New dates available

Due to the state of the epidemic, it was unavoidable to reschedule the orchestra‘s originally planned concerts in January and February. We are pleased to announce that because of fewer restrictions, Shostakotvisj and Barber on February 17th and the Vienna Concert on the 24th, 25th and 26th of February are now back on the program. Happy new musical year!

26. January 2022 : Programme in January and February

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra had to postpone or cancel its planned concerts in January and February due to the state of the pandemic. 

However, we are pleased to announce that the orchestra will reunite and give two lunchtime concerts in coming weeks, Wagner and Mozart on Thursday February 3rd and Mozart and Beethoven on Thursday February 10th.

13. January 2022 : Wagner's Die Walküre cancelled

Due to the state of the pandemic in Iceland as well as abroad, the decision has been made to cancel the Iceland Symphony Orchestra's and Icelandic Opera's production of Wagner's Die Walküre, which was to take place as part of the Reykjavík Art Festival in Harpa on 24th and 26th February 2022.
