Iceland Symphony Orchestra announces an open position for a viola player. An audition will take place on February 25th, 2025, at Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík.
Solo works:
- First movement from Viola Concerto in D Major by F.A. Hoffmeister or C. Stamitz with cadenza.
- First movement of Viola Concerto by B. Bartok or W. Walton.
- Movement of your own choice of unaccompanied work by J.S. Bach.
Audition repertoire:
Orchestral excerpts, with indicated passages to be played, will be sent by e-mail to applicants as soon as their application is approved, along with details regarding the location and time of the audition.
The application deadline is December 13th, 2024. A formal application form is not required; applications can be submitted by sending an email, along with copies of diplomas and curriculum vitae, to the Human Resources Director at starf@sinfonia.is.
About the Position
The vacant tutti position, is a full-time position as a viola player at Iceland Symphony Orchestra which employs a total of eleven viola players. A university level education in instrumental performance is required. Salary and benefits are subject to wage agreements between the association of ISO players and the Ministry of Finance. Applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) need to apply for a work permit, which is subject to approval by the Association of Icelandic Musicians (FÍH) and the Directorate of Immigration.
About the Orchestra
Founded in 1950, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra is the national orchestra of Iceland. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra employs 87 permanent musicians. The orchestra has for years been at the forefront of orchestras in the Nordic countries and has received high praise in reviews for its recordings as well as concerts at home and abroad. The orchestra holds about 100 concerts every year, including subscription concerts with world-renowned conductors and soloists. We are also proud of our ambitious educational work. Each year thousands of students from elementary to secondary level attend concerts. The orchestra also organizes a variety of educational projects for music students who wish to pursue a career as professional musicians.
Eva Ollikainen has been the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director since 2020. The Iceland Symphony is the resident orchestra in Reykjavik´s award-winning Harpa Concert Hall.
