Conductor and composer Daníel Bjarnason is Artist in Association at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. He was the orchestra's Artist in Residence from 2015 to 2018 and was Principal Guest Conductor at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 2019 to 2021.

Daníel Bjarnason is one of Iceland's foremost musical voices today, increasingly in demand as a conductor, composer and programmer. He regularly conducts the Los Angeles Philharmonic, Toronto Symphony, and Frankfurt Radio Symphony. As a composer, his works have been premiered by Gustavo Dudamel, Esa-Pekka Salonen, and John Adams.

In season 2026/27 Daníel Bjarnason will conduct the orchestra on several occasion, the concert Our Classics will open the season, Daði Freyr and the Iceland Symphony at the Iceland Airwaves Festival in November, and a subscription concert with works by Sibelius and Adés with violinist Johan Dalene. Daníel will also conduct a recording for Sono Luminus in the season.
