Vacant position: Artistic Advisor

Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO) is inviting applications for the position of Artistic Advisor (50–75% position, negotiable). We are seeking a creative, organized, and driven individual with broad knowledge and a strong passion for music and musical life in Iceland and internationally.

Iceland Symphony Orchestra (ISO) is inviting applications for the position of Artistic Advisor (50–75% position, negotiable). We are seeking a creative, organized, and driven individual with broad knowledge and a strong passion for music and musical life in Iceland and internationally.

Key Responsibilities

  • Responsibility for shaping and implementing ISO's artistic strategy.
  • Develops program proposals in collaboration with the Chief Conductor/Music Director and ISO's administrative team.
  • Provides artistic advice to the Music Director, guest artists, and the administrative team.
  • Chairs the orchestra's programming committee.
  • Participates in contract negotiations with artists.
  • Reviews orchestral parts and scores.
  • Writes program and project-related texts.
  • Contributes to the annual operational and strategic planning.

Qualifications

  • A university degree relevant to the position.
  • Extensive musical knowledge, with a focus on classical and contemporary music.
  • Comprehensive understanding of the international symphony orchestra landscape, including conductors and soloists/singers.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong ability to work collaboratively.
  • Independence, initiative, and strong organizational skills.
  • Familiarity with Iceland Symphony Orchestra is an advantage.
