The ever-popular Viennese concerts are a true New Year's celebration, ushering in a brand-new year with the merriest of music. As always, the concert presents Viennese favourites, sure to lift the mood of every listener – waltzes, polkas, and galops. Among the annual staples are the Kaiser-Walz and The Blue Danube by Johann Strauss II. Arias and duets from popular operettas can also to be found on the programme, performed by two exceptional singers, and, as ever, accompanied by outstanding dancers.
Soprano Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir has garnered much praise in recent years for her sumptuous and elegant voice, winning her 'Female Singer of the Year' at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2021. Álfheiður studied at the Hochschule für Musik Hanns Eisler in Berlin and has since made a name for herself on the international opera stage. She is now on the roster at the Theater Basel in Switzerland, where she has received very favourable reviews. Baritone Oddur Arnþór Jónsson was awarded 'Male Singer of the Year' at the 2018 Icelandic Music Awards for his performance as Michael in Daníel Bjarnason's opera Brothers. He has performed in many opera productions, both at home and abroad, as well as being a frequent performer of lieder.
He completed his studies at the Mozarteum in Salzburg in 2014.
