New CD with works by Swedish composer Dag Wirén
The Iceland Symphony has released a new CD with orchestral works by the Swedish composer Dag Wirén conducted by Rumon Gamba. The CD was recorded in June 2017 and released by the British record company Chandos this February.
Dag Wirén was influenced by Stravinsky and Poulenc and wrote highly successful music with a powerful rhythmic drive. He was a particularly versatile composer, even contributing the Swedish entry to the Eurovision Song Contest in 1965. The Iceland Symphony's CD features Serenade for Strings, which is his most popular work, Divertimento, Symphony in C Major and Symphony No. 3.
The CD can be ordered online and is available for purchase in record stores in Reykjavík and in Harpa Concert Hall.
