Music Librarian – Iceland Symphony Orchestra

Main Responsibilities

  • Overseeing the ordering, purchasing, rental, and return of sheet music for the orchestra.
  • Maintenance and organization of the orchestra's music library.
  • Communication and negotiation with domestic and international rights holders regarding music rentals.
  • Processing digital sheet music received from composers, arrangers, or other rights holders.
  • Providing support to musicians, conductors, technical staff, and other collaborators.
  • Assisting in the preparation of auditions and proficiency evaluations.

Qualifications and Requirements

  • A university degree relevant to the position.
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong service orientation.
  • Knowledge of cataloguing and music publishing practices.
  • Solid understanding of orchestral music, strong music reading skills, and the ability to identify errors in sheet music.
  • Familiarity with the structure and instrumentation of symphony orchestras.
  • Strong technical proficiency, including experience with digital tools such as OPAS and scanning systems.
  • Independence, initiative, and strong organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in English, both written and spoken.
  • Musical understanding of commonly used languages in sheet music, such as German, French, and/or Italian, is an advantage.

For over 75 years, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has been a leading force in the country's musical life and is considered among the top orchestras in the Nordic region. The ISO has received excellent reviews for both its recordings and live performances, at home and abroad. The orchestra presents around 100 concerts annually, including subscription concerts with world-renowned conductors and soloists, and collaborates with artists from various musical genres. The ISO is based in Harpa Concert Hall and Conference Centre. The organization employs around 100 people. More information is available at sinfonia.is.

The position is full-time and will commence on August 1, 2025. Salary is in accordance with the current collective agreement between the Minister of Finance and the relevant union.
