Stuart Skelton is among the world's leading tenors and has appeared in opera houses throughout the globe, including the Metropolitan Opera and La Scala in Milan. At this concert, he will perform Wagner's hauntingly beautiful love songs, written to poems by his lover, Mathilde Wesendonck.
The prelude to Tristan and Isolde is one of the most influential works of the nineteenth century, and the opera's final moments, known as Isolde's “Love-Death,” are among the most memorable in all of opera.
The Czech composer Bohuslav Martinů wrote his oboe concerto in 1955; it is a charming and delightful work with echoes of Stravinsky. The soloist is German oboist Julia Hantschel, who has been the Iceland Symphony's leading oboist since 2018.
Listen to the concert live on Channel 1 (Rás 1) of the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV).
