This program showcases three of the most famous orchestral pieces of all time. Tchaikovsky's Piano Concerto No. 1 gives the soloist scope to show a wide range of interpretive and technical skills and is one of the most popular compositions of all time. Russian pianist Yulianna Avdeeva rose to fame when she won First Prize in the Chopin Competition in 2010. She has since embarked on a world-class career and her artistic integrity is rapidly ensuring her a place amongst the most distinctive artists of her generation.

Mussorgsky's Pictures at an Exhibition, perhaps the composer's best-known piece, takes on a new dimension with Maurice Ravel's richly colourful orchestration. Debussy's prelude was a sort of manifesto for impressionism in music: a colourful, enigmatic piece inspired by French author Stéphane Mallarmé's eponymous poem about the dreams and desires of a faun who has just awakened from an afternoon sleep.

Unfortunately the violinist Sergej Krylov had to cancel his performance. In his place we welcome the award-winning pianist Yulianna Avdeeva.
