At this concert in the Litli tónsprotinn family music series, the ISO performs two classics. Peter and the Wolf is one of the most beloved musical adventures of all time, intertwining an exciting story and unforgettable music from the pen of Sergei Prokofiev, who gives each character in the tale their own theme and instrument. Young Peter lives with his grandfather, who takes a dim view of the boy’s escapades beyond the confines of their garden – for in the forest lives a dangerous wolf. Even so, Peter’s zest for adventure overtakes his good sense, setting off a thrilling chain of events. Along the way, the bird, the duck, and the cat all make an appearance – as does the greedy wolf, whose life Peter spares in spite of everything.
The musical adventure Tubby the Tuba has been exceedingly popular ever since its release in 1945. It tells the tale of a courageous tuba who desires more than anything to have the chance to play beautiful melodies, just like the flutes and violins in the orchestra. A timeless story of encouragement, friendship, and trust. Bragi Valdimar Skúlason revised the text for this performance.
These two works were issued together on a recording in 1978, and a new release is planned for later this season.
