At this concert the Iceland Symphony performs Mahler's magnificent Symphony no. 4 under the baton of Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason.

“A symphony must be like the world. It must contain everything,” said Mahler about his compositions. Few composers are on a par with Gustav Mahler when it comes to writing for large orchestra and his fourth symphony is no exception. The symphony is built around the song "Das himmlische Leben", which presents a child's vision of heaven.

Jóna G. Kolbrúnardóttir belongs to an exciting new generation of Icelandic singers. Jóna's recent performances in Iceland include a role at the Icelandic Opera and a performance at the Iceland Symphony's Vienna Concert in 2020. Conducting the orchestra is Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, Conductor-in-Residence at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

Listen to the concert live on Channel 1 (Rás 1) of the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV).
