For the past five years, the Iceland Symphony and the Icelandic National Broadcasting Service (RÚV) have joined forces to present splendid concerts called “Our Classics”, which have proven exceedingly popular. On 3 September 2021, the sixth Our Classics concerts will be held in Harpa. This time the spotlight is on theatre music from a variety of periods and from Icelandic and foreign works alike.
Among the gems on the programme is Atli Heimir Sveinsson's Afmælisdiktur („Í Skólavörðuholtið hátt“) , Hjálmar H Ragnarsson's Söngur Sólveigar, Jón Ásgeirsson's Maístjarnan, and selections from hit musicals such as Les Misérables and West Side Story. In spring 2021, Icelanders were invited to choose their favourite Icelandic theatre song by casting their vote on the RÚV website at ruv.is/klassikin. The results will be announced at the concert.
The concert is a collaborative project of the ISO, the National Theatre, and RÚV. Outstanding singers, actors, and choirs appear at this unique performance celebrating the magic of the theatre.
The concerts will be broadcast live on RÚV Television and Channel 1 radio.
