Happy Birthday, Ludwig! It's not every day that one of the greatest composers of all time turns 250! To mark the occasion, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra hosts a vibrant celebration, taking a backward glance at who this remarkable man was and what kind of music he wrote.
This family concert features a varied selection of Beethoven's masterpieces. The orchestra plays sections from his most popular works, including the Fate Symphony and the Pastoral Symphony. Two talented piano students perform popular piano pieces, and a young violinist plays the final movement of his gripping concerto — a programme certain to put the audience in a mood to celebrate. The high point of the concert comes when a massive choir of Icelandic young people performs the Ode to Joy in a new arrangement from Hildigunnur Rúnarsdóttir, with text from Bragi Valdimar Skúlason.
Watch the Iceland Symphony Orchestra on the orchestra's website, www.sinfonia.is, the orchestra's Facebook page, or on RÚV (Icelandic TV).
