Petri Sakari

Conductor

Petri Sakari first conducted the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 1986 and went on to serve as Chief Conductor on two occasions, from 1988 to 1993 and again from 1996 to 1998, with a period as Principal Guest Conductor in between. During these years he made a series of critically acclaimed recordings with the orchestra for Chandos and Naxos, bringing the Iceland Symphony to international attention. A graduate of the Sibelius Academy under Jorma Panula, Sakari has conducted all the major Finnish orchestras throughout his career as well as numerous orchestras across Europe and beyond.
