Johan Dalene

Violin

Johan Dalene is a Swedish-Norwegian violinist and winner of the prestigious Carl Nielsen Competition in 2019, named Gramophone's Young Artist of the Year in 2022. He has performed with leading orchestras including the Leipzig Gewandhausorchester, San Francisco Symphony, London Symphony Orchestra, and Royal Stockholm Philharmonic, and appears regularly at Wigmore Hall and Carnegie Hall. A champion of new music, he gave the world premiere of a concerto written for him by Tebogo Monnakgotla with the Royal Stockholm Philharmonic and John Storgårds in 2023. He records exclusively for BIS, and his recording of the Nielsen and Sibelius concertos with John Storgårds received three Gramophone Editor's Choice awards and a Swedish Grammis Award. He plays the 1725 'Duke of Cambridge' Stradivarius on loan from the Anders Sveaas' Charitable Foundation.

Johan Dalene first performed with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in 2021, playing Mendelssohn's Violin Concerto with conductor Ludovic Morlot, and returned in 2024 with conductor Andrew Manze to perform Korngold's Violin Concerto.
