Carolin Widmann

Violin

Carolin Widmann is widely recognised for her individuality and exceptional musicianship. She received the Bayerischer Staatspreis for music in 2017 and an International Classical Music Award for her acclaimed recording of the Mendelssohn and Schumann violin concertos with the Chamber Orchestra of Europe, which she directed from the violin. In 2013 she was named Musician of the Year at the International Classical Music Awards.

Widmann has performed with leading orchestras including the Berliner Philharmoniker, Orchestre de Paris, Orchestre National de France, Czech Philharmonic, London Philharmonic, BBC Symphony and Bavarian Radio Symphony Orchestra, working with conductors such as Sir Simon Rattle, Esa-Pekka Salonen, Riccardo Chailly and Vladimir Jurowski. She is also a regular guest at major international festivals.

Carolin Widmann has previously appeared once with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, in 2007, when she performed the solo part in Thomas Adès's Violin Concerto under the composer's baton. This season she performs a new violin concerto by the Italian composer Clara Iannotta at Dark Music Days.
