Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir

Álfheiður Erla Guðmundsdóttir is an Icelandic soprano known for her expressive depth and innovative approach to music-making, equally at home on the opera stage and in conceptual recital settings. She began her operatic career at the Berlin State Opera and has since performed across major European stages, including as an ensemble member at Theater Basel. In 2025/26 she is a Rising Star of the European Concert Hall Organisation, performing at the Elbphilharmonie Hamburg, Harpa Concert Hall, Concertgebouw Amsterdam, and Philharmonie de Paris, and takes on the title role in Unsuk Chin's Alice in Wonderland at Theater an der Wien. She has released two albums on Deutsche Grammophon - Notturno, a collaboration with pianist Víkingur Ólafsson, and Poems, a compositional debut created with composer Viktor Orri Árnason. She was named Singer of the Year at the Icelandic Music Awards in 2021.
Álfheiður has performed with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra on numerous occasions over the years and returns in the 2026/27 season for two concerts — the Our Classic concert in August and the family Christmas concert in December.
