The ISO's collaboration with Ari Eldjárn last season was truly a show-stopper. All three concerts in Eldborg Hall were sold out, and tickets were in such demand that it was decided to stage an encore in September 2018. Ari can be depended upon not to leave a straight face in the house as he tells hilarious stories relating to the orchestra and introduces popular symphonic works that many guests will recognise from other places than the concert hall, including recent cinematic hits.
Among the selections on the programme are the Allegretto from Beethoven's Symphony no. 7, recognised by many from the film The King's Speech; the mountain king theme from Grieg's Peer Gynt, used so effectively in The Social Network; and Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, which provided the perfect accompaniment to Apocalypse Now. This unusual concert provides a unique pairing of humour and historical masterpieces – unforgettable entertainment for the entire family.
Note: The stand-up is in Icelandic.
