The Iceland Symphony Orchestra invites applications for the position of Principal Clarinet. An audition will take place on September 23, 2025, at Harpa Concert Hall in Reykjavík. Applications must be submitted by August 15, 2025.

Solo Repertoire
1. W.A. Mozart – Clarinet Concerto in A major, K. 622: 1st movement, exposition only.

Audition Repertoire
Orchestral excerpts, with the specified passages to be played, will be sent via email to applicants upon acceptance of their application, along with details regarding the audition location and time.
About the position
The vacant position is a full-time position as Principal Clarinet with the Iceland Symphony Orchestra. The clarinet section comprises a total of three full-time positions. A university-level education in instrumental performance is required. Salary and benefits are determined by wage agreements between the ISO Players’ Association and the Ministry of Finance. Applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) must apply for a work permit, which requires approval from the Association of Icelandic Musicians (FÍH) and the Directorate of Immigration.
About the Orchestra
Founded in 1950, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra is the national orchestra of Iceland. The Iceland Symphony Orchestra employs 87 permanent musicians. For years, the orchestra has been at the forefront of Nordic orchestras and has received high praise for its recordings and performances both at home and abroad. The orchestra holds about 100 concerts every year, including subscription concerts with world-renowned conductors and soloists. We take great pride in our ambitious educational initiatives. Each year, thousands of students from elementary to secondary school levels attend our concerts. The orchestra also organizes a variety of educational projects for music students who wish to pursue a career as professional musicians. Eva Ollikainen has been the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director since 2020. The Iceland Symphony is the resident orchestra in Reykjavik´s award-winning Harpa Concert Hall.
