No specific application form is required; it is sufficient to apply by sending an email, including a curriculum vitae and copies of relevant diplomas, to the HR Manager at starf@sinfonia.is. Unless otherwise specified, all candidates will automatically be considered for both positions.

  2. The first movement, including cadenza, of a violin concerto by one of the following composers: Beethoven, Brahms, Sibelius, Dvořák, or Tchaikovsky.

Orchestral and Potential Chamber Music Excerpts
Orchestral and chamber music excerpts will be sent electronically to candidates once the application has been accepted, along with detailed information regarding the audition time and location. In the third round of the audition, candidates may be requested to perform chamber music with members of the orchestra.

About the Positions
There are two positions available: a full-time (100%) position of First Concertmaster — upon appointment, the orchestra will have two First Concertmasters — and a full-time (100%) position of Second Concertmaster.

The Concertmaster is responsible for the orchestra's professional and artistic advancement. The Concertmaster is the leader of the entire orchestra and is responsible vis-à-vis the conductor for ensuring that the orchestra's behaviour and performance are disciplined and focused.

The Concertmaster, among other things, participates in outreach activities on behalf of the orchestra and undertakes other duties in consultation with the management team. Additionally, the Concertmaster is expected to prepare and perform any solo passages as required.

A university-level qualification in instrumental performance is required. Remuneration is in accordance with the collective agreement between the Iceland Symphony Orchestra Employees' Association and the Ministry of Finance.

Applicants from outside the EEA must obtain a work permit, which is subject to approval by the Icelandic Musicians' Union (FÍH) and the Directorate of Immigration.
