Sleeping Beauty with St. Petersburg Festival Ballet
St. Petersburg Festival Ballet along with Iceland Symphony Orchestra perform the treasured ballet classic, Sleeping Beauty in Harpa Concert Hall November 23rd - 25th.
The Iceland Symphony has performed in various ballet performances throughout its history, including collaborations with the National Theatre, the ballet Baldr by Jón Leifs as part of the project Reykjavík City of Culture 2000, and Stravinsky's Rite of Spring and Petrushka with the Iceland Dance Company as part of the Reykjavík Arts Festival in 2013. Tchaikovsky's music is frequently in the orchestra's repertoire and last season the orchestra performed The Nutcracker with the St. Petersburg Festival Ballet.
Sleeping Beauty is one of the finest ballets in the classical repertoire. Pyotr Tchaikovsky himself held it for his best ballet. To accompany the story about the beautiful sleeping princess and the brave prince who wakes her up with a kiss, Tchaikovsky composed some of his most beautiful music. The magnificent stage design of the production takes the audience to the wonderland of fairies and beauties.
