7. February 2022 : New dates available

Due to the state of the epidemic, it was unavoidable to reschedule the orchestra‘s originally planned concerts in January and February. We are pleased to announce that because of fewer restrictions, Shostakotvisj and Barber on February 17th and the Vienna Concert on the 24th, 25th and 26th of February are now back on the program. Happy new musical year!

26. January 2022 : Programme in January and February

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra had to postpone or cancel its planned concerts in January and February due to the state of the pandemic. 

However, we are pleased to announce that the orchestra will reunite and give two lunchtime concerts in coming weeks, Wagner and Mozart on Thursday February 3rd and Mozart and Beethoven on Thursday February 10th.

Due to the state of the pandemic, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has postponed or cancelled its concerts and other events throughout February.

13. January 2022 : Wagner's Die Walküre cancelled

Due to the state of the pandemic in Iceland as well as abroad, the decision has been made to cancel the Iceland Symphony Orchestra's and Icelandic Opera's production of Wagner's Die Walküre, which was to take place as part of the Reykjavík Art Festival in Harpa on 24th and 26th February 2022.

11. January 2022 : Next two concerts postponed

 

Because of rising covid-cases in Iceland, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra has postponed its next two concerts. Yound Soloists which was scheduled for January 13th and Shostakovitsj and Barber whixh was scheduled for January 20th, have been postponed. New dates will be announced as soon as the decision has been made.

28. December 2021 : Viennese Concert Postponed

The Iceland Symphony's Viennese concerts 2022 have been postponed, due to Covid-19 restrictions and rise in infections. The concerts were scheduled for the 6th, 7th and 8th of January.

17. November 2021 : Rapid An­ti­gen Test – Negative Results Required for Concerts

 

A negative rapid an­ti­gen test result is required for concert goers 6 years old and up at Iceland Symphony Orchestra's concerts. Mask wearing is also required for 16 years olds and older.

Rapid tests results are valid for 48 hrs. and testing is free of charge. Pre-booking is necessary.

1. November 2021 : Vacant position of co-principal violinist in 2nd violin

Auditions will take place on January 24th, 2022 in Harpa, Reykjavik, Iceland. Application deadline is November 14th, 2021.

27. October 2021 : Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone™ in Concert in November – Press release

Iceland Symphony Orchestra announced today that the orchestra will perform Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone in Concert on 25th, 26th and 27th of November as part of the official Harry Potter Film Concert Series. The concert will feature Timothy Henty conducting the Iceland Symphony Orchestra in performing live, to picture, every note from Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone. Audiences will be able to relive the magic of the entire film in high-definition on a 40-foot screen while hearing the Iceland Symphony Orchestra perform John Williams’ unforgettable score live.

11. October 2021 : Björk Orkestral starts tonight

The Iceland Symphony Orchestra is a part of Björk's concert series Björk Orkestral, which starts tonight at Eldborg, Harpa. Members of the Iceland Symphony play instrumental arrangements of her music with the Icelandic singer in three out of four concerts in the series.

The first concert tonight is broadcast on RÚV2. Tickets for a live stream are available here, with 20% of proceeds going towards charity, alongside extra charitable donation options available.
