Olafur Sigurdarson is artist-in-residence at the Iceland Symphony Orchestra for the 2024/25 season and will perform with the orchestra in three concerts in the upcoming season. He is currently at the peak of his career and has in recent years sung leading roles in many of the world's most prestigious opera houses.
"It's an incredible honour, and I am very much looking forward to finally coming back home to Iceland to perform. It's been quite a while,"
says Olafur, eagerly anticipating the upcoming season. Lára Sóley Jóhannsdóttir, Managing Director of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra, agrees,
"Olafur Sigurdarson is an outstanding singer and a person who captivates concert-goers all over the world. We are very much looking forward to collaborating with him in the role of artist-in-residence and the concerts he and the orchestra will offer, along with Eva Ollikainen and Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason."
Olafur Sigurdarson will perform in the first subscription concert of the season on 5 September, where he will sing a selection of his favourite Wagner arias with conductor Eva Ollikainen, ISO's Chief Conductor. Olafur has long established himself as a world-class interpreter of Wagner and has performed many roles at the renowned Bayreuth Festival in Germany.
An Opera Feast will be held on 3-4 April, where Olafur, together with young Icelandic singers, will perform many of his favourite arias with the orchestra under the baton of Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason.
The concert Our Classics takes place on 30 August, where Olafur Sigurdarson will also perform the Ode to Joy from Beethoven's 9th Symphony.
