Winners of the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and Iceland University of the Arts Young Soloists Competition
The future of Icelandic musical life rests on the shoulders of the young singers and instrumentalists who are taking their first steps on the big stage at this very moment. It is always a particular thrill to see exceptional young musicians perform as soloists with the ISO and enjoy the fruits of their hard work. The hall is full of family and friends who have followed their musical studies for many years, and never is the applause more heartfelt than at this wonderful and exciting concert.
The soloists are chosen in an annual competition held in partnership with the Iceland University of the Arts. This year the artists are most certainly in good hands, as it is Finnish conductor Petri Sakari who stands next to them on the podium. Sakari was the orchestra's chief conductor from 1988-1993, and again from 1996-1998. For the past 35 years he has been one of the orchestra's main collaborators.
