Maximus Musicus is the Iceland Symphony's most extensive educational music project. It has been extremely successful, both in the form of several different concert programmes and illustrated books with CDs. The first story, performed at this concert, tells of a mouse that loses his way and finds himself at an orchestra rehearsal, experiencing the fascinating sounds of the symphony orchestra. The music accompanying the story includes Maurice Ravel's Bolero and Copland's Fanfare for the Common Man. The stories of Maximus have received several awards and been translated into many foreign languages.

The author of the Maximus stories, the Iceland Symphony's leading flutist Hallfríður Ólafsdóttir, passed away in September 2020. The stories are illustrated by Thórarinn Baldursson, a violist in the Iceland Symphony Orchestra.

To ensure space between guests, one empty seat will be reserved between each ticket order. We also offer seats that ensure a distance of 2 meters on all sides, but these tickets must be booked through the Harpa ticket office, tel. 528-5050. Read our concertgoer's guide here
