Bergrún Snæbjörnsdóttir has drawn considerable attention in recent years, with performances by the Oslo Philharmonic and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) in New York. She has also worked with Sigur Rós and has performed as a hornist with Björk Guðmundsdóttir, as well as having completed a Master's degree in Composition at Mills College in California in 2017. The latter of the season's Friday concerts features the work Skin In by Bergrún, one commissioned by Anna Þorvaldsdóttir and the Iceland Symphony and written expressly for members of the orchestra.

Beethoven's Symphony no. 7 is a favourite with music lovers the world over. The music effervesces with vitality and has a dance-like quality. At its Vienna premiere in 1813, the audience responded so effusively that the orchestra had to repeat the second movement. This movement is an excellent example of how Beethoven could create an enchanting musical world from simple materials, and indeed it has been among Beethoven's best-loved works ever since its first performance. Assistant conductor at the Iceland Symphony, Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, takes the podium for this hour-long concert.

The hour-long Friday Series concerts are an excellent way to wind down after the work week and a marvellous prelude to a relaxing Friday evening.
