At the season's first family concert, the Iceland Symphony invites concert guests to travel through time, stopping to appreciate some milestones in the history of Western music. The tour guides for this remarkable journey through the magical world of music are Þuríður Blær Jóhannsdóttir and Guðmundur Felixson, who lead listeners of all ages through a captivating landscape of fields and valleys, climbing the highest peaks and exploring mystical narratives of monsters in the sea and myths on land.

The programme includes rambunctious dances, music from The Magic Flute, the Ode to Joy, and Sveinbjörn Sveinbjörnsson's Lofsöngur, as well as monster music from Scotland, with tuba player Nimrod Ron in the spotlight together with students from Fljótsdalshérað district, who illustrated the work. The programme is rounded out by high-spirited tunes from Indiana Jones and a brand-new work by the winner of the Upptakturinn prize.

At the podium is American conductor Michelle Merrill, who is well known for her work with young audiences and has directed a host of educational projects with the Detroit Symphony Orchestra and others in North America.
