Iceland Symphony Orchestra announces an open position for a flutist with obligation to play piccolo.

The auditions will take place on September 3rd, 2024, at Harpa Concert Hall, Reykjavík.

 

Solo works:

  1. Vivaldi: Piccolo Concerto in C major, RV 443, I. and II. movements.
  1. Mozart: Flute Concerto No. 1 in G major, K. 313 (285c), I. movement (without cadenza).

Audition Repertoire:

Orchestral excerpts, with indicated passages to be played, will be sent by e-mail to applicants as soon as their application is approved, as well as additional information regarding the location and time of the audition.

The application deadline is July 18th 2024. There is no need to fill out an application form; it is sufficient to apply by sending an email along with copies of diplomas and a curriculum vitae to the Human Resource Director at starf@sinfonia.is.

About the Position

The vacant position is for a full-time flutist with the obligation to play piccolo in Iceland Symphony Orchestra. The orchestra comprises three flutists in total, including an assistant principal and a principal flutist. A university-level education in instrumental performance is required. Salary and benefits are subject to wage agreements between the association of ISO players and the Minister of Finance. The position is expected to be filled for the 2024-2025 season. Applicants from outside the European Economic Area (EEA) must obtain a work permit, which is subject to approval by the Association of Icelandic Musicians (FÍH) and the Directorate of Immigration.

About the Orchestra

Founded in 1950, the Iceland Symphony Orchestra is the national orchestra of Iceland. Iceland Symphony Orchestra employs 87 full-time musicians. For years, the orchestra has been at the forefront of orchestras in the Nordic countries and has received high praise for its recordings and concerts both at home and abroad. The orchestra holds about 100 concerts every year, including subscription concerts with world-renowned conductors and soloists. We are also proud of our ambitious educational work. Each year, thousands of students from elementary to secondary level attend concerts. The orchestra also organizes a variety of educational projects for music students who wish to pursue a career as professional musicians.

Eva Ollikainen has been the Chief Conductor and Artistic Director since 2020. Iceland Symphony is the resident orchestra in Reykjavik's award-winning Harpa Concert Hall.
