Richard Wagner Siegfried Idyll
W.A. Mozart Symphony no. 29
-
Conductor
The Iceland Symphony Orchestra's lunchtime concert on Thursday 3 February features works by Wagner and Mozart. Siegfried Idyll is one of the most unusual works in Wagner's repertoire, who focused mostly on opera. This captivating composition was his birthday present to his wife, Cosima, shortly after she gave birth to their son, who was named Siegfried with a reference to the protagonist of Wagner's opera of the same name.
Symphony no. 29 by Mozart is one of the composer's greatest masterpieces, composed when he was only 18 years old. Many believe that this work marks a turning point in Mozart's career, where he emerged as a mature symphony composer. The symphony is characterized by lightness and poetry, as well as the unique creative joy and ingenuity that always characterizes Mozart's works.
