The Iceland Symphony's Viennese concerts 2022 have been postponed, due to Covid-19 restrictions and rise in infections. Ticket holders will be informed when more information is available.
The Iceland Symphony's ever-popular Viennese concerts are truly a New Year's festival, brightening the dark winter days with zesty and vibrant music. This year's performances are led by Austrian conductor David Danzmayr, who has Viennese rhythm flowing through his veins. On the roster are waltzes and polkas by Johann Strauss the Younger, including the Emperor Waltz and the Blue Danube, as well as the overture to Die Fledermaus. Also featured are Nordic works inspired by Viennese dances: Hans Christian Lumbye's beloved Champagne Galop.
Tow of Iceland's most revered singers of their generation join the Iceland Symphony for the concerts, with a troupe of dancers to set the stage. Herdís Anna Jónasdóttir brought the house down in her role as Violetta in Verdi's La traviata with the Icelandic Opera and has garnered rave reviews for her performances of new music such as György Kurtág's Kafka-Fragmente. Elmar Gilbertsson, who is currently engaged with the Stuttgart State Opera, has won the hearts of the Icelandic nation with his performances.
