Lauri Porra The Seasons in Moominvalley

Host
Jóhanna Vigdís Arnardóttir
For decades, Tove Jansson's books about the Moomintrolls have enchanted children and adults alike, with stories and illustrations richly layered with magic and wisdom. Both the philosophical and the darker sides of Moominvalley and its inhabitants have inspired hosts of adult artists from various disciplines. One of them is Finnish composer Lauri Porra, who has made a name for himself not only as a composer of wide-ranging music but also as the bass player with power metal band Stratovarius.
A musician to the core, Porra is the great-grandson of Jean Sibelius, Finland's most famous composer. The work heard here is Porra's The Seasons in Moominvalley, which intertwines his orchestral music together with Tove Jansson's text and illustrations in a captivating way. An irresistible Friday concert that no Icelandic Moomintroll fan should pass up!
Guðrún Jarþrúður Baldvinssdóttir translated Tove Jansson's story.
