ISO Artist-in-Residence Sæunn Þorsteinsdóttir is a diligent ambassador of new music but maintains a steady and fruitful connection to musical tradition. On this programme in the ISO's Friday Series, held in Norðurljós Hall, she takes her audience on an hour-long voyage into the unknown, exploring the world of cello sound through works such as Dvořák's Waldesruhe, a new work by Veronique Vaka, and Pierre Boulez' Messagesquisse for solo cello and six accompanying cellos. Rounding out the programme are two works by young women composers who have drawn considerable attention in recent years. Assisting Sæunn are instrumentalists from the ISO, and on the podium is the Iceland Symphony's Conductor-in-Residence, Nathanaël Iselin.
