The Iceland Symphony’s Christmas concerts will be broadcast on Icelandic television (RÚV) on Christmas Eve, December 24th, at 13:25 GMT.
The annual Christmas concerts is a permanent part of many families’ holiday schedules in Iceland, with a host of experienced professionals and young musicians and dancers joining forces in an artistic extravaganza.
This year’s programme will be no exception. The programme features beautiful Christmas music from various periods, including a Christmas overture and a dance from Tchaikovsky’s Swan Lake. Már Gunnarsson, a recent shooting star on the Icelandic musical scene, performs a Christmas song he wrote especially for this concert. The conductor is Bjarni Frímann Bjarnason, and master of ceremonies is Barbara the Clown. The concerts are also performed in Icelandic Sign Language.
In light of the newest assembly regulation, the orchestra is not able to invite audience members to this concert. Enjoy the music live on RÚV or here on the orchestra's website.
