The atmosphere is always festive at the ISO's Christmas Concert, where holiday classics have a permanent spot on the programme. The Christmas concerts have become an indispensable part of many families' holiday celebrations. A new holiday overture with Christmas tunes from the Nordic countries and Leroy Anderson's Sleigh Ride set the stage for Iceland Ballet Academy students' inspired performance of Tchaikovsky's Waltz of the Flowers and the Reykjanes Music School Bell Choir's rendition of the Icelandic Christmas classic Jólin alls staðar. The Kópavogur School Band performs Gunnar Þórðarson's ever-popular Christmas Eve, and young soloists take the stage for the inimitable Panis Angelicus. Langholtskirkja Church Choirs and soloists join forces with the Litlu Sprotarnir Sign Language Choir to perform a selection of Icelandic and international Christmas tunes guaranteed to put everyone in a holiday mood. And to top it all off, the unparalleled Barbara the Clown acts as Master of Ceremonies.
Students from the Kópavogur School Band and the Reykjanes Music School Bell Choir welcome concertgoers with holiday favourites before the programme begins.
