The Iceland Symphony Orchestra's horn section is an exceptional group of outstanding musicians, and this concert presents a rare opportunity to hear them in the spotlight of soloist. Robert Schumann's Konzertstück for four horns is a truly delightful work that shows the horn section in its finest form.

Bartók's Music for Strings, Percussion, and Celeste is a key work in his output, written in 1936. It has been called one of his “most perfect creations”, a work that encompasses strong contrasts: “it is simultaneously primitive and sophisticated; wild and controlled; serene and terrifying; serious and slapstick”, writes one commentator. This concert also features a fascinating flute concerto by the much-lauded Finnish composer Kaija Saariaho, performed by Iceland Symphony's member Áshildur Haraldsdóttir. The work, titled Wing of Dream, is inspired by various kinds of bird song, but also of ancient aboriginal tales. This work has received rave reviews and is widely considered among the most important flute concertos of recent decades.
