Each year the Iceland Symphony Orchestra and the Iceland Academy of the Arts sponsor a competition for young soloists. The competition is open to students at the collegiate level, irrespective of which school they attend, and the winners perform a solo with the ISO. At the podium is the Iceland Symphony Orchestra's former Chief Conductor Petri Sakari, a long-time favourite among Icelandic music lovers. Petri performs regularly with the Iceland Symphony and has conducted the Youth Orchestra in the past as well.
The Iceland Symphony and the Iceland Academy of the Arts join forces to support our most talented young performers on their path towards the world of professional musicianship. This concert is eagerly anticipated every year, and the atmosphere at the concert is nothing short of magical. The competition was held in autumn of 2016.
