Ari Eldjárn is one of the funniest Icelanders ever to stand in front of an audience, and it can be almost impossible to keep a straight face when he is on stage. Now he appears with the ISO in a new kind of solo performance, telling amusing stories relating to the orchestra and introducing popular symphonic works that many guests will recognise from other places than the concert hall, including recent cinematic hits.

Among the selections on the programme are the Allegretto from Beethoven's Symphony no. 7, recognised by many from the film The King's Speech; the mountain king theme from Grieg's Peer Gynt, used so effectively in The Social Network; and Wagner's Ride of the Valkyries, which provided the perfect accompaniment to Apocalypse Now. This unusual concert provides a unique pairing of humour and historical masterpieces – unforgettable entertainment for the entire family.
